So you have finally decided to write UPSC exam and you want to know what is the syllabus and whether you are eligible to appear for the exam, which coaching centre is best, how many attempts are permitted,etc,etc,etc...... |

are FOUR different syllabus You have to choose
ONE among them.
1. Indian Civil Services Syllabus (IAS ) 2. Indian Engineering Services ( IES) 3. Indian Forest Services Syllabus(IFS) 4. Indian Economic Service / Indian Statistical Service Syllabus(IES / ISS) |

For Civil Service Exam ( ie. IAS, IPS, etc), Applications are called for during November/December Preliminary Exam will be conducted in May and Main exam will be after 5 months of Preliminary Exam. |

For Engg Service Exam, Apllications are called for in the month : January/February. Preliminary Exams will be conducted in May and Main exam will be in June/july |

Eligibility to write Civil Service : Any degree such as BA,BSc,MA,MSc,BTech,BE,MBBS Age : Between 21 to 30. Eligibility to write Engineering Service(IES): Any Engineering Degree (some of the MSc degree also eligible) Age : Between 21 to 30. Even though you are an Engineering Graduate, you are eligible for appearing CIVIL SERVICE also. For an example, you can take MATHS for IAS(prelim) and MATHS&PHYSICS for IAS(Main).

Some UPSC FAQ Q1. What is the restriction
on number of attempts in Commission’s Examinations? Q2. Can
a candidate who has completed his education from an open school/ University
apply for Commission’s Examination? Q3. Whether
a candidate belonging to a community included in the OBC list of states but
not in the Central list of OBCs is eligible for age relaxation, reservation
etc. for Commission’s Examinations?
Q.1. Can a candidate
choose an optional subject, which he has not studied at graduate/PG level? Q.2. Is it necessary
for a candidate to take the same optional subject in the Main Exam, which
he had taken in the prelims Examination? Q.3. If a candidate
has applied for the CS (P) Examination but has not appeared at any paper
in the CS (P) Examination will it be counted as an attempt? .
